Cognitive Testing and Dementia: To Screen or Not To Screen...

This program explores the often controversial topic of routine cognitive screening for dementia within high risk population groups. In this class, the states of memory loss, cognitive impairment and dementia are explored in light of the recent changes in criteria and guidelines for diagnosing Alzheimer's Disease as published by the Alzheimer's Association and the National Institute on Aging. The pros and cons of routine cognitive screening will be discussed, and several of the more commonly utilized cognitive screening tools will be compared. How these different tools may be useful in different clinical situations will also be addressed. This program also includes case example and discussions and interactive activity.
